Ashe County’s softball team lost a tough non-conference game on Monday to North Surry but bounced back to defeat North Wilkes on Tuesday.
North Surry scored five in the sixth inning to turn a tie ballgame into a 7-2 victory. Bailey Culler drove in two runs and Hannah Goins added an RBI double to help North Surry get the win.
For Ashe, Hannah Blevins had one hit and an RBI. Brianna McCoy and Mackenzie Shatley each added a hit as well.
On the mound, Haley Tickle got the Greyhound win pitching seven innings and allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.
McCoy started for Ashe and allowed seven runs with four of them earned on 10 hits with five strikeouts.
On Tuesday, Ashe got back into the win column with its sixth victory of the season, a 6-1 win over visiting North Wilkes.
McCoy was much better on the mound giving up just one unearned run on four hits with 14 strikeouts and zero walks.
At the plate, Olivia Thore collected two hits, Blevins scored two runs and Shatley scored a run and had an RBI.
The Lady Huskies are now 6-10 overall and 6-9 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
Ashe will end this week with a non-conference home game against West Caldwell on Friday.
