The Lady Husky winning streak has reached 10 matches with victories over West Wilkes and Alleghany this week.

Not only that, Ashe is now ranked ninth in the 2A women’s tennis poll with a 10-3 overall record and a 10-1 record in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

Ashe won both of its matches by 9-0 scores to continue a tremendous run of victories that started exactly a month ago.

Against West Wilkes, all six singles matches ended with straight set wins, and the doubles matches were just as easy for the Lady Huskies

“This was good experience for the players to maintain focus in a slow tempo match. I am again very proud of our team and the way they represent our school and community,” said Head Coach Larry Dix. “This is the fourth match where someone from the opposing team has come up to me after the match to tell me how much they appreciated the sportsmanship and attitude of our players.”

Top seed Hallie Brown won by a 6-0, 6-1 score over Jenna Roten. Second seeded Maggie Witherspoon beat Elizabeth Walker, 6-1, 6-0 and third seeded Grace Miller beat Alexa Bumgarner, 6-1, 6-0.

Fourth seed Kasey Curcio and sixth seed Ella Copeland each won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores and Mary Austin Tugman was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Amanda Limon.

In doubles matches, Brown and Witherspoon beat Roten and Walker, 8-1. Miller and Tugman beat Bumgarner and Limon by an 8-3 margin and Curio and Copeland were 8-0 winners over Lindsey McKaffey and Kristyn Craig.

Alleghany came to town on Tuesday, but left with the same 9-0 loss.

After dropping her first set, Brown recovered to beat Molly Andrews in the second set, 6-2, then breezed through the tiebreaker, 10-2.

Witherspoon and Tugman were 6-1, 6-1 winners over Kallie Dalton and Madison Murphy. Miller was a 6-3, 6-1 victor against Lydia Garcia, Curcio beat Katy Harper, 6-0, 6-0 and Copeland scored a 6-4, 6-3 win against Abby Wagoner.

Brown and Witherspoon continued their strong doubles season with an 8-3 win over Andrews and Dalton. Miller and Tugman won by an 8-0 margin against Garcia and Murphy. Curcio and Copeland capped off the sweep with an 8-0 win over Harper and Wagoner.
