In the first meet of the 2012 season, the Ashe County cross country team started off on the right foot with a first place finish in the women’s meet and second place in the men’s event.
As a team, the ladies finished with 26 points, beating East Wilkes and Alleghany.
Mac Church took first place overall in the women’s meet, finishing the course in 21 minutes, 58 seconds. Second place went to McKenzie Stokes of East Wilkes, finishing in 22:18 while third place went to her teammate Ashley Wagoner who crossed the finish line in 22:46.
Ashe took four of the next five finishing positions. Chrissy Simmons was fourth, finishing in 24:21. Tyler Eller took sixth, followed by Chelsea Eller and Victoria Reed in seventh and eighth.
The remaining Ashe runners included Alexes Armstrong (12th), Caroline Trent (13th), Claire Liszka (15th), Kalyn Chapman (16th), Zarah Worley (17th) and Lauren Testerman (18th).
In the men’s meet, East Wilkes took the top four finishing positions, and finished in first place overall with 21 points. Ashe was second with 42 points and Alleghany came in third with 67 points.
Abram Logan finished first in a time of 17:56, followed by Willy Jolly in second (18:02), Phillip Hemric in third (19:09) and Zach Prevette in fourth (19:13).
The Huskies captured the next four finishing positions, fifth through eighth. Jonathan Nichols had the top Ashe County time, completing the course in 19:31. Andrew Tedder was next (19:59) followed by Richard Burke (20:05) and Gareth Berry (20:17).
Other Husky runners were Nathan Jolly (17th), Tony Mendoza (18th), Zach Gouge (19th), Andrew Shepherd (22nd), Adam Graybeal (23rd) and Josh Reavis (26th).
