Earnest Carol Jarvis
Earnest Carol Jarvis of 350 School Rd., Taylorsville, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at the Taylorsville House, after an extended illness. He was 71.
He was born April 26, 1941 in Ashe County to the late Jack Holman and Hazel Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis served in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. He later retired from Vulcan Materials of Winston Salem. He was a member of the American Legion in Walkertown and was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Jarvis.
He is survived by a daughter, Pam Turner and husband, Freddy, of West Jefferson; three step sons, Mark Jarvis and wife, Earlene, of Statesville, Eddie Dishmond, Edwin Dishmond and wife, Sherry, all of Taylorsville; two step daughters, Cecelia Ham and husband, Eddie, of Millers Creek, Penny Hall and husband, Doug, of Taylorsville; a sister, Linda South of West Jefferson; two grandchildren, Martisha Turner and Joshua Jarvis, both of West Jefferson; six step grandchildren, Tiffany Johnson, Julie Ham, Danny Dishmond, Stacy Dishmond, Jonathon Dishmond and Nicholas Hollar.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The Rev. Gary Jennings will officiate. Military rights will be conducted by the Ashe County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday evening at Chapman Funeral Home.
