It was a season to remember for Ashe County High School student Luke Eggers. Eggers, 16, won the season championship at Farmington Dragway in Mocksville in the Junior Dragster division.
The winning did not end there. Eggers and his team of seven other junior dragsters and 32 racers as a whole from Farmington traveled to Piedmont Dragway in Guilford County to compete in the bracket final. There, Eggers won the championship for the Farmington team, the first time a junior dragster had ever done that.
Overall, Eggers competed in roughly 30 events this year with most of them being at Farmington, but some other places along the way as well.
Luke has been racing since he was 11 and hopes there are several more years to come.
“I’d really like to do this for a career, but we’ll see what happens,” said Eggers.
Eggers can run in his current division until he turns 18, then will hopefully move up to a higher level of competition.
The year was a major success for Luke, but he knows he could not have done it all alone.
“I’d like to thank my mom and my sister Kelsey, as well as Pork Jones, Howie Adams, Gary Wiant, Todd Tutterow, and all my friends and family for all of the support during this season,” added Eggers.
Luke would also like to extend a special thank you to the sponsors that helped him out so much this season, including Parker Tie Company, Miller Insurance, Richardson’s Refrigeration, and Dwayne Craver Racing Engines.
