Four people were arrested on several charges, including burglary and simple assault.
Edward Merlos, 31, of Jefferson was arrested on Dec. 18 and was charged with drug possession as well as communicating threats. According to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office, a victim called and stated that Merlos had a knife and was making threats. Officers went to the residence and placed the suspect under arrest. Officers found a marijuana pipe, and the suspect allegedly made threats towards the officers.
William Francis Causey, 68, and Donna Lee, 59, were arrested on Dec. 22 and were charged with burglary. A suspicious vehicle was reported at a residence. Officers investigated and found Causey and Lee, both had allegedly broke into the residence and had been living there without permission from the homeowner.
Joe Kenneth Neaves, 49, of Crumpler was charged with simple assault after an incident at a residence where a victim called and reported that Neaves struck him twice hitting him in the nose.
No bond information was available for any of these arrests as of press time.
