A four-wheeler accident on the 900 block of Little Windfall Road in Lansing resulted in the death of a man earlier today at approximately 3 p.m., according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The man was later identified as Don Funk, 51, from Whitetop Va., according to Trooper Chuck Olive who responded to the accident.

The accident occurred as Funk was traveling northbound on Little Windfall Road on a four-wheeler and drove off the left side of the road, rolling down an embankment, according to Olive.

“There was no indication of speeding,” said Olive.

He also said Funk was reported dead when first responders arrived to the scene.

According to a member of the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department who responded to the accident, the motor on the four-wheeler driven by Funk was cold on arrival, possibly indicating Funk was there for a while before help arrived.

The Ashe County Sheriff’s Department and Blue Ridge Medical Transport joined the Lansing VFD in responding to the accident.
