This week marks a special week for the young hunters in the High Country. From April 6 through April 12, young hunters can take part in this one-week-only spring turkey hunt. The bag limit for the entire week is one bird.
The adult hunting season for wild turkey will begin on April 13.
This week beforehand allows the young hunters to go into the woods with an accompanying adult to gain some much-needed hunting experience.
“With hunter recruitment as a major goal of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission,we are continuously looking for ways to bring more youth into the woods,” said David Cobb, chief of wildlife management for the N.C. Wildlife Commission.
Trout season also opened this week for all hatchery-supported trout waters in the area. According to the NC Wildlife Commission, there are 17 trout-stocked bodies of water for fishing in Ashe County.
