The Ashe County golf team picked up its best finish of the year on its home course at Mountain Aire.

East Wilkes and Forbush tied for the top spot with a team score of 161. Ashe was third at 174 followed by Elkin in fourth with a score of 178 and a tie for fifth between Starmount and Wilkes Central as both finished at 179. West Wilkes (191), Alleghany (207) and North Wilkes (220) rounded out the tournament scoring.

Tucker Goodman fired a 39 in nine holes to have the best round of the day for all Ashe golfers. Jacob Worley finished with a score of 43 and Adam Graybeal had the third best score of 45. Nathan Jolly finished with a 47, Zach Lawrence had a 48 and Abel Warner scored 54.

The weather was foggy an damp, but the course held up nicely to get the match in.

“I would like to thank Mountain Aire, especially Phillip Shepherd and Jane Hampton, for their help making this conference match a success,” said head coach Laura Foster.

All Mountain Valley Conference golfers will be in action on Thursday at Oakwoods Country Club in Wilkesboro at 1 p.m.
