Ashe County and the rest of the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference schools completed the regular season with a match at the New River Golf Course in Sparta and a match at Oakwoods Country Club in Wilkesboro.
East Wilkes shot a team score of 174 to secure a first place finish at New River. It was a four-way tie for second place between Elkin, Forbush, Starmount and Wilkes Central who each finished with team scores of 179
The Huskies finished in sixth place, shooting 185. West Wilkes (202), Alleghany (215) and North Wilkes (226) rounded out the scoring totals.
Individually, Nathan Jolly had the best round for Ashe, shooting 42 in nine holes. Tucker Goodman finished with a 47, Zach Lawrence shot 49 and Abel Warner finished with 49 as well. Jacob Worley shot 51 and Adam Graybeal finished with 55.
On Thursday, the golf team wrapped up the regular season with a fourth place and a second place finish at Oakwoods Country Club.
“The guys played really well. I am very proud of them. Oakwoods is a tough course to play,” said head coach Laura Foster. “We are making a push to qualify for the regionals as a team.”
Teams played two separate nine-hole matches to conclude the season.
Forbush grabbed the top spot in the first match with a score of 162. East Wilkes took second, shooting 167 and Starmount came in fourth with a team total of 169.
Ashe’s score of 174 was good enough for fourth place, and two shots better than Elkin in fifth. Wilkes Central (178) finished sixth, followed by West Wilkes (199), North Wilkes (199) and Alleghany (220).
Warner had the two score in the first match with a 40. Goodman finished with a 43, Lawrence shto 44 and Jolly finished with a 47. Graybeal finished the first nine with a 50 and Worley shot 52.
In the second match, Ashe performed even better, finishing in a tie for second place and just one shot back of first.
Forbush came in first once again, shooting 170. Ashe and East Wilkes both finished with 171. Wilkes Central was fourth with a score of 174. Elkin and West Wilkes tied for fifth with a team total of 178. Starmount (179), Alleghany (205) and North Wilkes (210) rounded out the match totals.
Lawrence had the top Ashe score in the second nine with a 39. Goodman finished with a 41, Warner shot 43 and Jolly finished with 48. Graybeal and Worley each matched their previous round scores with a 50 and 52.
