It is officially less than a month until the North Carolina high school football season fires up.
For the Huskies, they will tackle an 11-game schedule that includes four non-conference games and seven Mountain Valley Conference matchups.
This also marks the first season of the most recent conference realignment. Forbush is no longer a member of the MVAC, and the conference is now split evenly with four 2A teams and four 1A teams.
Ashe, Wilkes Central, North Wilkes and West Wilkes all make up the 2A side of the conference while Elkin, Starmount, East Wilkes and Alleghany are the 1A teams.
The Huskies will open the season on the road at North Surry on Aug. 23.
Ashe will then battle hated rival Watauga in the team’s first home game of the young season one week later.
The non-conference schedule comes to an end with a road game at R.J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem on Sept. 6 and the home Endowment Game against Hibriten on Sept. 13.
The Huskies will have an off week on Sept. 20 before opening MVAC play at Alleghany on Sept. 27
October kicks off with back-to-back home games against rivals Wilkes Central (Oct. 4) and West Wilkes (Oct. 11).
Ashe then hits the road for two games to end October. East Wilkes will face Ashe on Oct. 18 and North Wilkes will host the Huskies on Oct. 25.
The regular season ends with a pair of home contests. Starmount makes the trip up the mountain on Nov. 1 and Elkin will be the opponent for Senior Night on Nov. 8.
All games are scheduled to kickoff at 7:30.
The junior varsity team will face all of the same opponents except for Hibriten. All JV games begin at 7 p.m. each Thursday.
