The Watauga Pioneers remained a thorn in the Huskies’ side on Monday, scoring a 4-0 victory over Ashe in Boone.
Watauga exploded for three goals in the first half. Logan Raichle put the Pioneers on the board with a goal in the 14th minute. Tucker Chasteen then netted his first goal of the game in the 30th minute with a laser shot.
With just three minutes left in the half, Raichle buried his second of the match getting a shot by the Ashe keeper to put Watauga in front, 3-0, at the halftime break.
The Pioneers held Ashe off the scoreboard for the entire 80 minutes of play, and added a fourth goal in the 60th minute to start the season 1-0. Chasteen scored that final tally.
Ashe will keep their non-conference schedule of games going with a home match against Hibriten on Monday, Aug. 26 and another non-conference match against former Mountain Valley Conference foe Forbush in East Bend on Thursday, Aug. 29.
