Tucker Chasteen scored two goals and Watauga withstood a late charge from the Huskies to take a 2-1 win.
Chasteen’s first goal came in the 11th minute to give the Pioneers an early edge.
The Huskies had a hard time moving the ball in the first half with very few scoring chances to speak of.
In the second half, Ashe was finally able to put some pressure on Watauga. Victor Melo fired a shot from outside the box but the Watauga goalkeeper was there for the save in the 46th minute.
On the ensuing counter attack, the Pioneers took advantage of some good passing and a wide open field to get Chasteen his second goal of the night in the 47th minute.
Trailing by a 2-0 margin, Ashe kept fighting to get back in the game. Frank Ledezma moved in on goal for a shot attempt in the 49th minute that sailed just high of the net.
Ashe goalie Jamison Cline kept the score where it was with an outstanding diving save in the 54th minute as Chasteen was going for the hat trick.
The Huskies finally got on the scoreboard in the 78th minute with a penalty kick goal for Ledezma after a Pioneer player committed a hand ball foul inside the penalty box.
With just two minutes left to get the equalizing goal, Ashe pressed forward but had no luck.
The Huskies dropped to 2-4 overall and have lost three straight games, all by just one-goal margins.
Ashe will look to get back to its winning ways next week with three games on the schedule. The team travels to Alleghany on Monday before hosting Oak Hill Academy on Tuesday and Elkin on Thursday.
