Ashe County’s volleyball team squared off against Starmount and Wilkes Central in their two previous matches, but came up on the losing end both times.
On Thursday, Ashe hosted Starmount but lost the match three games to zero. Starmount took the first game by a 25-9 score, game two by a 25-8 score before sweeping the match in the third game, 25-5. Lady Ram senior Hunter Welborn led all players with 13 kills.
For Ashe, Abby Lopp, Elaina Bassett, Sloan Elliott and Kelsey Hayes each had a kill against the strong Starmount team. Zoe Richardson led the team with four assists and Lynsey Aldridge led Ashe with four digs.
Next up, Ashe traveled to Wilkes Central on Tuesday. The Lady Huskies came out strong, taking the first game, 25-22.
The remaining three games were close battles, but it would be Central that came away with the victories. The Lady Eagles won game two, 25-15, and games three and four by identical 25-19 scores.
Laken Blackburn and Hannah Williams led Wilkes Central in kills with 12 and 11. Blackburn also added in three blocked shots.
Ashe fell to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
Next week, the ladies will have two conference home matches. Ashe hosts North Wilkes on Tuesday and then West Wilkes on Thursday.
