Ashe County Sheriff James Williams announced this morning an arrest has been made in the investigation of a Sept. 3 drive-by shooting in Fleetwood.

Damion Okoyia Blevins, 20, was taken into custody Friday by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office at the Lowes Motel in Wilkesboro. Blevins is charged with one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and 2 counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

When arrested, Blevins had a shotgun and an SKS rifle, Williams said. The rifle was sent to a crime lab in Asheville for ballistics testing to determine if it was the weapon used in the shooting.

At approximately 5:45 a.m. Sept. 3, two shots were fired from a pickup truck into the Miller residence at 1038 Water Tank Road, according to an ACSO incident report.

The two bullets, fired from a high-powered rifle, penetrated the front of the house, three interior walls, a bathroom ceiling and the refrigerator, before the shooter drove off, according to the report.

Resident Dana Miller and her two adult grandsons were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Blevins is being held in the Wilkes County Detention Center on a $40,000 secured bond.

“The investigation is continuing, and there may be other charges forthcoming,” Williams said.

Blevins has been arrested on several other charges in the last year, including assault on a female, injury to real property, common law robbery and communicating threats, according to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.
