It took almost the entire ballgame before either team found the back of the net. Frank Ledezma ripped the game-winning kick to the opposite post in the 75th minute to give Ashe a 1-0 win over Starmount on Monday.
Scoring chances were at a premium in the first half. Ledezma and Trent Pruitt each had good shots on the goal in the first 40 minutes, but both saw their shots stopped.
Starmount struggled just as much getting through the Ashe defense. Brayam Reyes, Matt Ball, Justin Roland and Alexis Ramos each made several good plays getting the ball outside of the scoring box.
The second half opened with a nice shot from Alex Church in the 52nd minute followed by a header attempt from Alexis Ramos off of a Husky corner kick in the 62nd minute.
With time quickly running out, Ledezma finally got a good run down the outside of the box before firing the game winner by the Starmount keeper.
The Huskies are now 6-4 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
Ashe wraps up the week with a non-conference battle at Newton-Conover on Friday evening.
