Wilkes Central scored its first conference win of the season on Wednesday when the Eagles defeated Ashe, 3-1.
The Eagles scored right out of the gate with a goal from Dilver Castro in the third minute. Central went ahead 2-0 on a goal from Kevin Reynolds off of a nice assist from Omar Alvarez in the 17th minute.
That score would remain the same until Ashe finally showed signs of life on offense with a goal from Victor Melo in the 50th minute to cut the deficit to just one goal.
The Eagles kept the offensive pressure up and it paid off with a penalty kick in the 62nd minute. Trevor Royall took the shot and got it by Ashe goalie Jamison Cline.
Central kept Ashe from finding the back of the net for the final 30 minutes of play to give the Huskies its first conference loss of the year.
Ashe was back on the field Friday night at Newton Conover in the final non-conference regular season game of the year. The Red Devils came away with a 3-2 victory.
The Huskies fell to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in conference after last week’s action.
