Ashe Memorial Hospital has recruited new health care providers, CEO Laura Lambeth announced today.
“We’ve got five new physicians coming into Ashe County,” Lambeth said.
Novant Health, which took over management of AMH Aug. 1, heard concerns about lack of health care access in the community, and has made physician recruitment a top priority, she said.
New AMH hires include the hospital’s first-ever anesthesiologist, Mark L. Perlman, M.D., who starts work Dec. 1.
Two family medicine hospitalists, David Carl Luoma, M.D., and Owen D. Oksanen, M.D., will also be joining the AMH staff Dec. 1.
Sandra K. Pardo, M.D., begins family medicine practice at the Mountain Family Care Center tomorrow.
Cardiologist Jeanette Billett, M.D., starts Jan. 1, 2014, at Novant Health Ashe Cardiology in the Seagraves Care Center.
Novant will continue to recruit physicians to the county so Ashe residents don’t have to keep appointments “down the mountain,” Lambeth said.
As part of Novant’s effort to meet community needs, Lambeth announced the following extended hours of operation at AMH facilities:
Mountain Family Care Center
Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Mountain Hearts Center for Prevention and Wellness
Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“People don’t like to go out of their community for health care. We’re already seeing a slight increase in our census in the past couple of months,” Lambeth said.
“It’s exciting for the community and exciting for Ashe Memorial Hospital,” she said.
