West Jefferson’s Downtown streetscape project has won an Award of Merit from the N.C. Department of Commerce Rural Economic Development Division.
Nominated for a 2013 N.C. Small Town Main Street Award by Town Planner Matt Levi, the downtown makeover was a winning entry in the category of design.
“We appreciate the efforts of the town, Division 11 — N.C. Department of Transportation, Appalachian District Health Department and Ashe County Arts Council in furthering the cause of downtown revitalization in your community, and are delighted to recognize those efforts,” read an Oct. 11 letter to Levi from Elizabeth Parham, director of the REDD’s Office of Urban Development.
Levi said the streetscape design was done by McGill Associates of Asheville, and the construction was performed by Vannoy Construction.
Awards will be presented at the N.C. Main Street Annual Awards Dinner and Program in New Bern Jan. 29, 2014.
