Thanks to a pair of road victories to end the regular season, Ashe’s soccer team clinched a share of the 2013 Mountain Valley Conference Championship, the second year in a row for the team. Last year, Ashe shared the title with Forbush. This season, the Huskies will share the top spot with Wilkes Central.
The Huskies traveled to North Wilkes on Monday and picked up a 6-1 victory.
Senior Jamie Weaver got the scoring started in the third minute. Miguel Ramos scored his first of the night in the 12th minute to put Ashe in front, 2-0
Viking striker Dylan Shumate came through with a goal in the 19th minute.
Ramos quickly responded with another goal just one minute later. The junior picked up his first hat trick of the season, scoring in the final minute of the first half to put Ashe ahead by a 4-1 score at the half.
In the final 40 minutes, Ramos netted a fourth goal in the 47th minute before Frank Ledezma got the final Husky tally in the 49th minute.
On Wednesday, Ashe traveled to West Wilkes and squeaked out a 2-1 win to clinch the MVAC Championship. Ramos scored both of Ashe’s goals.
The Huskies will have at least one home playoff game, which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday. Ashe’s playoff opponent is unknown at this time.
