Ashe County High School Colorguard caps award-winning season

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - Completing an award-winning season in style, the Colorguard section of the Ashe County High School Vanguard Marching Band placed first in the Visual Ensemble category at the Inaugural Science Hill Hilltopper Invitational Marching Band Competition on Saturday.

The Huskies were among 14 bands competing in four divisions based on band size.

Ashe County competed in the 1A Division along with David Crockett High School of Jonesborough, Tenn., Unicoi High School of Erwin, Tenn., Sullivan North High School of Kingsport, Tenn. and West Greene High School of Mosheim, Tenn.

While the Colorguard captured first place, overall, Ashe County placed third among the five bands.

The Hilltopper Invitational was the fourth and final competition of the season for the Marching Huskies.

Led by senior section leaders Katelyn Brabson and Ninfa Nava the Colorguard placed either first or second in every competition this season.

Other members of the Colorguard are Ashley Nava, Brittany Barr, Kenzie Bare, Brittany Stuart, Cami Pruitt, Cassie Lyalls and Kiera Young. The Colorguard’s Color Instructor is Nicole True.

The Husky Vanguard Marching Band will perform at the last two home varsity football games on Nov. 1 and Nov. 8.

The band will also perform at holiday parades in West Jefferson on Nov. 16 and Blowing Rock on Nov. 30.
