Ashe County graduate Zeb Richardson and the Guilford Quakers officially opened their season this past weekend with the Guilford College Invitational, a two-day tournament in Greensboro.
Guilford won both of its games to win the tournament championship.
On Friday, Guilford played LaGrange and came away with a 90-81 victory.
Richardson played 19 minutes off the bench and scored four points, grabbed three rebounds and recorded two blocks.
Guard Matt McCarthy scored 23 points and dished out six assists, Jake Hopkins scored 17 as did Alston Furr.
In Saturday’s championship game against William Peace College, Richardson tallied 18 minutes on the court and scored eight points and pulled down four rebounds. Trever Hyatt led the Quakers with 18 points in 16 minutes off the bench. McCarthy scored 12 and Furr added 11. Guilford cruised to a 72-53 victory.
The Quakers will put its 2-0 record to the test on Tuesday as they will face Greensboro College at the coliseum on Tuesday.
The first conference game for Guilford will be on Saturday, Nov. 23 at home against Washington and Lee. The Quakers were picked to finished fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference preseason poll.
