The second half was the difference in the game between Ashe and Avery in the season opener for both teams.
Avery outscored Ashe 31-17 in the final two periods of play to score the first win of the season.
The Vikings had a very balanced scoring night. Jacob Waldrop led the team with 11 points. Dylan Baur scored 10 while James Stewart, Dalton Tennant and Luke Wotell each had eight points.
Chance Watson and Tyler Pittman scored six points and Kobe Pittman hit one free throw to round out the visiting team’s scoring.
Avery had a good game shooting the ball, hitting 52-percent of their shots and 36-percent behind the three-point line.
The story was a bit different for the Huskies. Ashe shot just 41-percent from the field and hit only three out of 14 shots beyond the arc.
Cullen Ashley ended the game as Ashe’s leading scorer with 12 points. The senior also had four rebounds.
Alex Spencer had seven points, Devan Sheets chipped in five, Bradley Lucas had four and Connor Bowers had four. Gavin Woodie finished with three points and Kaleb Sexton rounded out the Ashe scoring with two points.
Spencer was the high rebounder with five boards. Parker Shelton finished with two assists and two steals while Sheets had a team-high three steals.
The Huskies return to the hardwood this Friday night at home against North Surry.
