Halloween costume contest winners announced

The Jefferson Post’s online Halloween costume contest ended on Sat Nov. 9. with over 50 submissions.

The Parker Tie Co. sponsored a grand prize of $150, which went to Adam Ham of Jefferson. Ham was the overall vote-getter with 886 votes cast for his creepy “Zombie Dude” costume, complete with fake brains poking out of his white hat.

This year’s category sponsors were Bella Ragazza’s Italian Kitchen for “scariest,” Dr. Charles W. Jones, MD, PA for “funniest,” ‘Tis the Season for All Seasons for “cutest” and Vannoy Construction for “most original.”

Nearly 3,600 votes were submitted in the online Halloween costume contest. Costumes included mummies, cowboys, the “Real Housewives of Ashe County” and plenty of zombies.

The “funniest” winner, Chuck Thompson of Lansing, received an impressive 344 votes and a $50 prize for his Mad Hatter costume. Thompson even earned grand prize winner “Zombie Dude’s” endorsement for his attire.

Another zombie, Lilly Brooks Mayberry of Crumpler, took home a $50 prize and title of “scariest” with 41 votes. Lilly could be seen roaming the streets of downtown West Jefferson on Halloween looking for candy to feed on.

The winner of “cutest” was well-earned by Macey Heart of West Jefferson, entered by her mother. Her pink “Hello Kitty” costume won 279 votes and a $50 prize.

Dan McAulay of Boone took home a $50 prize for “most original.” Dan’s “The Kilted Wraith” was an elaborate homemade costume inspired by the movies “Star Wars” and “Mad Max.” His creativity paid off, and earned him an outstanding 541 votes.
