North Wilkes had four players reach double-figures with a balanced scoring attack to get by the Lady Huskies, 56-43.
Allison Livengood had 13 points, Taylor Wyatt scored 11, Brittany Escobar had 11 and Allie Church had 10 to pace the Vikings, who continue to play without last year’s leading scorer Jackie Denny as she recovers from a knee injury.
Morgan Hudler led all scorers with 18 points and Hallie Brown filled up the stat sheets again with 10 points, two steals, two assists and two rebounds to keep Ashe close for most of the contest.
“I was really pleased with how hard we played and how well we competed against a very good North Wilkes team,” said Ashe Head Coach Laura Foster. “North Wilkes, even without Jackie Denny, is the most experienced and talented team in our conference. This was a much much closer game than the final score.”
Junior Paige Spell finished with five points, four assists and four steals, Abby Lopp had five points and eight boards while Savannah Brooks scored four points and tallied a team-leading 12 rebounds.
The Lady Huskies are now 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
North Wilkes is 8-4 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the MVAC.
Ashe will have two games this week. The Lady Huskies travel to Starmount on Wednesday before returning home to battle Wilkes Central on Friday.
