A late model silver Toyota SUV overturned on an icy patch of Old N.C. 16 in Jefferson at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23.

It is unclear if road conditions were a factor in the accident.

Unconfirmed reports stated the driver was pinned under the vehicle.

N.C. State Trooper Aldridge confirmed at least one person was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital from the scene.

Aldridge said an investigation into the cause of the single car accident by Trooper Miller would be conducted before more details were released.

The Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department and Ashe County Rescue responded to the scene of the accident.
