The Ashe County High School JROTC “Husky Battalion” drill team was in action on consecutive weekends in March and their performances exceeded all expectations.

On Saturday, March 22, the drill team traveled to West Iredell High School near Statesville and competed against 10 other JROTC drill teams. While the competition was tough, the team scored well in all events and took home the Second Place Overall trophy.

The team returned home and immediately began to prepare for the next drill meet at Elkin High School on March 29.

In spite of being out of school for two days due to winter weather, the team worked hard to learn new routines.

On March 29, in Elkin, the JROTC Husky Battalion drill team won multiple events and finished the competition with a solid First Place Overall victory.

Notable results included both the Freshman and “A” Team Color Guards who marched near flawless routines to take First Place event trophies. Drill Team Commander Cadet Captain Josh Reavis won top individual honors in the Knockout Competition, being the last cadet standing in competition with over 100 other cadets. JROTC Freshmen team placed Second Overall in their division.

Team coach SFC Dave Smith said, “The team practiced hard and made great strides as a precision marching unit during the past six weeks. Their dedication to the team really paid off. Many thanks to the parents who provided fantastic support all year.”
