Ashe County snapped its brief losing streak with a non-conference win over Oak Hill Academy.
Oak Hill had just four players for the match so the teams played four singles matches and two doubles matches.
The Huskies won all four singles matches in straight sets.
Top seeded Alex Church beat Devin Soulsby, 6-1, 6-2. Second seeded Jacob O’Neal scored a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Alex Vanstippen. Third seeded Andrew Shepherd and fourth seeded Caleb Adcock both earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over Spencer Titzman and James Yuan.
In doubles action, Church and O’Neal were 8-0 winners against Soulsby and Yuan. Shepherd and Adcock beat Titzman and Van Stippen, 8-2.
“It is always fun to play Oak Hill. They are such good sports and just enjoy coming to Ashe to play,” said Ashe County Head Coach Larry Dix.
Coach Dix said the team played well but still made some unforced errors that they will continue to work on in practice, but the team is still improving.
“Our net play seems to get better with each match, as does our court position and strategy. I am proud of their effort, attitude and progress,” said Dix.
Up next, the tennis team will be at home against Alleghany on Tuesday, at home against Oak Hill again on Wednesday and travel to Elkin on Thursday.
