Track team competes in Porter Relays

Ashe County traveled to Lenoir for the annual Porter Relays with both the men’s and women’s track teams finishing in fourth place overall out of nine teams.

The meet started with field events. Brandon Wingler finished 12th overall in the shot put. Luis Ramos finished 17th and Mitchell Brown was 23rd. Wingler ended up 10th in the discus throw while Brown was 17th and Ramos was 23rd.

Ashe had four men compete in the long jump. Ronald Goodlander had the best finish in seventh place. Hunter Argetsinger was 15th, Sam Hudler was 21st and Andrew Tedder finished 25th.

In the triple jump, Maison McNeill was seventh overall with a leap of 38 feet, four inches. Hudler and Goodlander finished 15th and 16th.

Hudler had a good performance in the high jump, finishing fourth when his jump cleared five feet, six inches. McNeill finished in a tie for sixth place and Zach Outen was 12th.

In the women’s field events, Olivia Barr was 10th in the shot put with a toss of 24 feet, eight inches. Sloan Elliott was 15th and Hallie Brown finished 19th.

Elliott and Barr finished 16th and 17th in the discus throw while Brown ended up 22nd.

In the long jump, Hailey Richardson’s jump of 13 feet, 8.75 inches was good enough for seventh place.

Paige Spell finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, nine inches. Richardson finished ninth at 29 feet, five inches. Spell also did well in the high jump, clearing four feet, 10 inches, good enough for fifth place.

On the track, all running events took place in relay formats. Ashe’s results are as follows:

Men’s 4x800 – fourth place

Men’s 4x110 shuttle hurdle – fifth place

Men’s 4x100 – seventh place

Men’s distance medley – eighth place

Men’s 800-meter sprint medley – seventh place

Men’s 4x200 – third place

Men’s 4x400 – seventh place

Women’s 4x800 – second place

Women’s 4x100 – seventh place

Women’s distance medley – fifth place

Women’s 800-meter sprint medley – eighth place

Women’s 4x200 – fifth place

Women’s 4x400 – fifth place
