Golf season always seems to go by the quickest and this season was no different. Ashe County wrapped up its regular season with a fifth place finish at New River Country Club last Thursday.

Alleghany finished in the top spot with a team total of 167, seven strokes ahead of second place Elkin.

Starmount (179) finished third, Wilkes Central (183) was fourth and Ashe was just one shot behind the Eagles.

East Wilkes (189), North Wilkes (204) and West Wilkes (219) completed the team scoring totals.

Alleghany’s Dylon Wooten and Wilkes Central’s Chandler Metz shared the top score with a 39, three shots over par. Andrew Cheek (West Wilkes) and Hunter Maines (Alleghany) finished in a tie for third just one shot back.

There was a four-way tie for fifth place between a pair of Elkin golfers, Josiah Blevins and Harrison Hall, Starmount’s Nick Gunnell and Zach Nixon from East Wilkes. All four shot a 41.

Behind those players, Ashe County’s Abel Warner, Wilkes Central’s Zach Caudill and Alleghany’s Tanner Rutherford finished just three shots back of the lead with a 42.

Zach Lawrence and Ethan Warner shot a 45 and 46, respectively. Judd Price finished with a 51, Jacob Worley shot 52 and Jacob Schell finished with a 59.
