Summer camps begin next week at Blue Ridge

Two summer camps will kick off next week at Blue Ridge Elementary School while a third one remains two weeks away.

The annual Mighty Mite Basketball Camp and Junior League All-Stars Basketball Camp will both get underway on Wednesday, June 11. Camp will take place from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

This is the 23rd year for the Mighty Mite Camp. The camp is for boys and girls in kindergarten through rising third grade.

The camp is held to teach the proper skills and fundamentals of basketball while also having fun.

The Junior League All-Stars Camp will also begin on June 11 and will take place from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day. This camp is for boys and girls that are rising third graders through rising seventh graders.

Registration forms for both camps are available at all three elementary schools and at The Hobby Barn in West Jefferson.

The registration fee for each camp is $35.

A soccer camp is scheduled at Blue Ridge the following week. The Players Edge Soccer Camp will take placed June 16 through June 19 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day.

Campers from kindergarten through seventh grade are eligible to participate.

Camp goals consist of learning and practicing the fundamentals of soccer each day through drills and games.

Mike Eldreth, who runs all three of these camps, is a former soccer coach at Northwest Ashe High School and the current president of the Ashe County Youth Soccer League.

Camp fee for the soccer camp is $35 and forms can be picked up at each elementary school or at Tamales in Jefferson.
