In its upcoming inaugural season in the Sun Belt Conference, the coaches have picked Appalachian State to finish seventh out of 11 conference teams.

The preseason poll was released on Saturday.

The Mountaineers are one spot ahead of former Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern. The Mountaineers finished with 47 voting points while GSU had 44.

Louisiana-Lafayette picked up every first place vote and is the big favorite to win the conference title.

Arkansas State was picked to finish second, followed by South Alabama, Troy and Louisiana-Monroe. Texas State was tabbed to finish sixth, followed by ASU, GSU, Idaho, Georgia State and New Mexico State.

It is just over a month until the 2014 campaign begins.

The Mountaineers will try to repeat history as they travel to the University of Michigan on Aug. 30 for the season opener. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN 2.

After that, the Mountaineers return home for the first time as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision when they host Campbell on Sept. 6. That game will air live on ESPN 3 online.
