JEFFERSON —Ashe Memorial Hospital is one step closer to a newly renovated Emergency Department with a recent donation from SkyLine Membership Corporation.

Skyline representatives presented Laura Lambeth, Ashe Memorial Hospital’s Chief Execuive Officer, with $25,000 for the hospital’s renovation project on Tuesday. Skyline’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to donate the funds at its most recent meeting.

“We’re here to serve the community and the response we’ve received from companies like SkyLine has just been phenomenal and I can’t thank you enough,” Lambeth said. “It will serve this community for years and years to come.”

The renovation has been years in the making. The hospital’s emergency department has not been renovated since 1991 and Ashe Memorial employees said they hope the makeover will help centralize patient rooms for nurses and provide more efficient care to patients.

Three years ago, the Hospital Foundation’s annual campaign raised $123,000 for the emergency department renovation, and Ashe Memorial was later awarded $25,000 as part of a Blue Ridge Electric Impact Grant. Lambeth said the hospital was also awarded more than $900,000 in June from the Golden Leaf Foundation Board of Directors and $150,000 from the Cannon Foundation.

“With healthcare, everyone is going to use the facility at some point or they’re going to be attached to it by their families. It’s very personal. We have a lot of pride in the hospital system here,” Brent Keith, Skyline’s Strategic Sales Supervisor, said. “Everything we do is for our members of the public community, that’s why we exist.”

Lambeth said all funds for the renovation project came from the Golden Leaf Foundation, the Hospital Foundation and by contributions from the community.

“We need a community hospital in Ashe County,” Lambeth said. “This county cannot survive without it and that’s why our focus has been working with the community and having the community work with us.”

Lambeth said renovations are expected to begin around the end of November into early December of this year.
