WEST JEFFERSON — Boondocks Brewing Tap Room and Restaurant partnered with Girl Scout Troop 10267 to offer a beer and cookie paring event on Monday night, bringing together the best of both worlds into one evening.

“One of our bartenders’ kids are in the Girl Scouts and his wife is involved and it was kind of her idea so we were just happy to do it and happy to get on board with it,” said Boondocks’ General Manager Jared Yelton.

Erik and Staci Christoferson helped organize the event that paired five of the most popular Girl Scout cookies with five tasty brews selected by Boondocks.

The beers featured were Boondocks’ very own brews that included the Truth Serum, Altitude Adjustment, the Centennial Ale, the Brutal Brown and the Honey Orange Kolsch.

While this was the first event of its type held, Boondocks is striving to help out community organizations even more.

“We’re always looking to do any events like this,” said Yelton. “We’re always willing to help and do whatever we can.”

According to Yelton, Boondocks also catered a special dinner on Tuesday for A Safe Home For Everyone to help raise money and bring awareness to the efforts of that group.

For the Girl Scout troop, this was the first of two events this week hoping to raise money for the girls. On Sunday, March 5 at 3 p.m., Troop 10267 is hosting the inaugural Ashe County Girl Scout Cookie Dessert Challenge and Silent Auction at Ashe County High School.

The event will feature local restaurants and bakers battling head-to-head to create the best dessert using one of the nine Girl Scout cookie flavors. Event attendees will get to vote for their favorite desert based on taste, presentation and display.

The cost of the event is $6 and tickets can be purchased from local Girl Scouts or by calling Alberta Swain at 336-353-8135.

“One of our local girls is earning her Gold Award, which is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. The money raised will go towards her project which will be benefitting Ashe County High School,” said Swain.

Swain said that part of the proceeds from the Boondocks event and from this Sunday’s event will also go towards the individual Girl Scout troops in the county.

The silent auction will feature an array of themed gift baskets, including Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts and there will be a few baked goods for auction as well.
