JEFFERSON–Vannoy Construction’s 21st annual charity golf tournament on June 23, drew more than 250 partners and raised nearly $430,000 to be used for future scholarships.

Held on June 23 at the picturesque Jefferson Landing Golf Resort, clients and vendors came together to raise money for Ashe County students in memoriam of Jeremy Elliott, stepson of Eddie Vannoy. Jeremy passed away in 1996, after a valiant struggle against leukemia.

Thanks to their partners they raised $428,000 in 2016 for the scholarship fund through sponsorships and additional donations.

As in the past, many players opened their own wallets during the day to donate additional money to the scholarship fund – an action that was not requested, but graciously welcomed. As 100% of the proceeds from the tournament benefit the Jeremy Elliott Memorial Scholarship Fund and Ashe County education, these generous donations have allowed 436 high school students to attend college in pursuit of their dreams.

Golfers, sponsors, and volunteers braved the humidity as the tournament kicked off with a shotgun start for 124 players at 8 am, followed by a second shotgun start for an additional 135 players at 1:30pm.

A staggered rotation of players in the morning and afternoon allowed for all interested parties to play. To bring fun competition to the tournament, we awarded AM Round and PM Round winners, and “Closest-to-the-Pin” winners. There was also a “Hole-in-One” prize on the 2nd hole; however, none of the golfers were successful at this hole.

Vannoy would like to sincerely thank all parties involved in this event; including Jefferson Landing for generously allowing them to utilize the course and facilities, as well as all of the sponsors – Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Hole and Closest-to-the-Pin.
