BOONE-A West Jefferson man was charged with soliciting a child by a computer following an investigation by the Boone Police Department.
On Thursday, Nov. 10, the BPD concluded an Internet Crimes Against Children operation resulting in the arrest of 31-year-old Benjamin Lindsey Keely, according to a police press release.
Keely had arranged a meeting in Boone, with the intent of exchanging money to have a sexual encounter with a minor female. Officers observed Keely travel to the meeting location, approached him and conducted an interview. Keely was then taken into custody prior to having made any physical contact with a minor.
Keely was also charged with a misdemeanor count of soliciting prostitution.
His court date is set for Dec. 13 and his conditions of release were set as a $40,000 secured bond. Keely has since posted bond and has been released, said the BPD.
