The following accidents that occurred between Nov. 10 and Nov. 17 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.
A fender bender was reported on U.S. 221 in West Jefferson when the Chevrolet driven by Joanne Margaret Hughes, of 3831 Buckeye Road, Sugar Grove, struck a Toyota by Jose Camilo Cardenasbonilla, of 83 Highland Drive, Sparta. The accident occurred while traffic was stopped at a construction flagger. Hughes was cited for failure to reduce speed, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol’s report.
The N.C. Highway Patrol investigated a three-car accident on U.S. 221 in West Jefferson. According to the report, Claudia Perez-Chichicast Garcia, of 4580 Tournament Drive, Apt. 101, Raleigh, and Randi Raynelle Jones, of 488 Tom Absher Road, Scottville, were stopped for traffic when Adrian Black Winterton, of 699 School Avenue, West Jefferson, struck the stopped motorists, causing a chain reaction. Winteron was charged with failure to reduce the speed.
A two-car collision was reported on S.R. 1573 in Jefferson. According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Edwin Lee Richardson, of 144 Enterprise Lane, West Jefferson, was traveling south on R.P. 1573 from a private drive on the east side of the roadway. Theresa Houck Hansen, of 381 Grant Houck Road, Todd, was traveling north on R.P. 1573. Richardson failed to yield and struck the car driven by Hansen in the center of the highway. Following the collision, both vehicles came to rest near the area of impact. Richardson was cited for failure to yield.
An animal collision was reported on N.C. 163 in West Jefferson. According to the narrative, April Miller Hartzog, of 237 Knollview Drive, Jefferson, was traveling south on N.C. 16 when she struck a deer that entered the center of the roadway. Following the collision, the vehicle was moved from the area of impact before the investigating officer arrived. The Nissan she was driving reportedly sustained $3,000 in damages.
A single-car accident was reported on N.C. 88 near West Jefferson. According to the NCHP, John Louis Hyatt, Jr., of 457 Mt. Olive Church Road, Fawn Grove, Pa., was traveling west on N.C. 88. His vehicle struck loose gravel in a curve, overturned, ran off the road to the right and struck a guardrail. His vehicle came to rest near the area of impact. No citations were issued. Ashe Medics responded to the car.
An animal collision was reported on N.C. 16 in Jefferson. According to the narrative, James David Vannoy, of 6364 N.C. 16 N., Crumpler, was traveling south on N.C. 16 when a deer entered the roadway in front of the vehicle. The car then struck the deer in the roadway. Following the collision, the vehicle was moved to the side of the roadway before the investigating officer arrived. Vannoy’s Dodge was estimated to have received $3,000 in damages.
A two-car accident was reported on N.C. 16 near in Jefferson. The incident occurred when Tori Marie Logel, of 233 Perry Presnell Road, Banner Elk, was turning left from a private drive. Kimberly Dawn Rominger, of 135 South Pine Run Road, Boone, was traveling south on N.C. 16. Logel failed to yield right-of-way and collided with Rominger. Logel was cited for failing to yield right-of-way.
A fender bender was reported on U.S. 221 in Jefferson while Hwan Sun Cahoon, of 751 Greensboro Road, Crumpler, collided with Pamela Adams Bennett, of 473 Ocie Blackburn Road, Fleetwood. Bennett’s Dodge sustained $500 in damages, according to the NCHP. Cahoon was cited for failure to reduce speed.
