A single-story farmhouse was destroyed early Monday morning on Old Obids Road near Glendale Springs.

According to Ashe County Fire Marshal Bob Davis, the fire was reported at 962 Old Obids Road at 3:30 a.m. The home’s owner was away at the time of the fire, he said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but Davis said it is possible that it began in the living room. The structure was totally engulfed and flames were poking through the roof by the time fire fighters arrived on scene.

“It burned very quickly,” said Davis.
