Ashe County Wreck Report Feb. 16 – March 7

ASHE COUNTY- The following accidents that occurred between Feb. 15 and March 7 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

Feb. 16

Thomas James Lane, 230 N.C. 88 E, Jefferson, reportedly failed to yield to the 2001 Jeep of Dena Louise Bare, of 376 J.H. Bare Drive, Jefferson. Lane’s 2007 GMC struck Bare’s Jeep, causing it to overturn on its left side. Lane was cited for a safe movement violation. The GMC sustained $9,000 in damages while the accident rendered $6,000 in damages to the Jeep.

Feb. 17

David Lane Barnes, of 179 Don Walters Road, Jefferson, reportedly struck a deer on N.C. 16 in Jefferson. His 2016 sustained $1,500 in damages.

Feb. 22

Nicholas David Gray, of 573 Preacher Blackburn Road, Todd, was traveling south on N.C. 194 when he ran off the road to the right, struck a ditch and overturned. The vehicle came to rest on its right side after impact. Gray was cited for not wearing a seat belt.

Feb. 23

Casey Lee Roberts, of 7170 Idlewild Road, Fleetwood, was traveling south on U.S. 221 when his 2009 Nissan travelled off U.S. 221 in West Jefferson before reentering the roadway and eventually overtuning down an embankment where it came to rest. His Nissan sustained $4,500 in damages.

Christopher Todd Rogers, 60 Callahan Street, Franklin, failed to yield by attempting a left-turn onto U.S. 221. After turning onto U.S. 221, Callahan’s 2000 Ford was reportedly across the center-line and completely in the northbound lane. At this time, Jennifer Hess Treva, of 1975 Water Tank Road, West Jefferson, travelled off the right side of the roadway to avoid a head-on collision with Rodgers. Her 2005 Chevrolet then overturned. Rodgers was charged with a safe movement violation.

Feb. 2

Thomas Harold Carpenter, of 6707 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, Tenn., attempted to make a left turn onto south Jefferson Avenue and struck the 2014 Honda driven by Caitlyn Anne O’Donnell, of 571 Wilson Lane Extension, Boone. The Honda sustained $4,500 in damages while the accident rendered $1,000 in damages to the 1997 Saturn. Carpenter was cited for failure to yield.

Feb. 25

Charles Ralph Maynard, of 208 Beau Rivage Drive, Crumpler, was traveling on N.C. 16 when he traveled left of center and off the roadway to the left. His vehicle collided with a telephone box and an embankment. His 203 Subaru sustained $5,500 in damages. Maynard was charged with reckless driving.

March 1

Floyd Edwin Collinsworth, of 327 Walter Godbey Road, West Jefferson, was traveling on S.R. 1125 when he lost control and traveled off the roadway to the right. His 1999 GMC then collided with a tree.

March 2

Alberta Ponce, of 167 Briar Forest View, of West Jefferson, failed to yield right of way and collided with the 1994 Toyota of Roger Dale Lyalls, of 450 Mountain Top Trail, West Jefferson, on U.S. 221 in West Jefferson. Ponce was cited for failure to yield right of way.

Parker Shelton, of 250 E. Oakwood Road, West Jefferson, was traveling on S.R. 1583 when he crossed the center-line and ran off the road to the left. He then over corrected and crossed the center-line again before running off the road to the right. His 2006 Toyota then struck a tree and came to rest facing north in the roadway. Shelton was charged with driving left of center and driving while intoxicated.
