Welcome Home to West Jefferson Summer Celebration

WEST JEFFERSON —West Jefferson will continue it’s Centennial Celebration with the “Welcome Home to West Jefferson Summer Celebration” July 31 through Aug. 2. The homecoming event for the entire community will take place in Downtown West Jefferson on W. Main Street and in the West Jefferson Park.

July 31

To kick off the event, the West Jefferson Centennial Commission will host the West Jefferson School Reunion on July 31.

All former students from 1917 through 2004 are invited to attend the reunion held in honor of the Town of West Jefferson’s Centennial year.

The reunion will begin at 6 p.m. and last through 10 p.m. There will be a showing of the video “West Jefferson’s Centennial: A History of Our Town” and light refreshments will be served. John Duvall will be the evening’s host.

The reunion will be held in the West Jefferson School Gymnasium located at 406 School Avenue in West Jefferson.

Approximately 165 people have currently sent in RSVP’s for the reunion.

Aug. 1

There will be a “Community Picnic in the Park” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bowie-Seagraves Park and a “Music Jam Session” from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“Storytelling and Jack Tales in the Park” with award winning Vicky Town will be at 11 a.m.

All are invited to come enjoy historic games for kids, a scavenger hunt, storytelling, music and more.

From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. there will be a “Street Dance/ Sock Hop” with live music by Rain Jackets Band and The Lucky Strikes.

Perry’s Gold Mine located in downtown West Jefferson will hold viewings of the “West Jefferson’s Centennial: A History of Our Town” video throughout the day. The video will show highlights of the history of West Jefferson including historic photos and interviews.

Aug. 2

To end the weekend celebration, there will be a “Community Worship and Musical Celebration” on Sunday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring their own chair for the event.

The “Welcome Home to West Jefferson Summer Celebration” is free and open to everyone.
