WEST JEFFERSON-Police said they’ve got little information to go on after a man was shot in town with a handgun late last week.

According to West Jefferson Police Chief Jeff Rose, authorities were alerted to a shooting after being told by Ashe Memorial Hospital that Daniel Goodman, 32, was being treated sometime after 9 p.m. on March 10.

Rose said Goodman had been shot in the lower leg with a 9mm handgun at an area near the intersection of US-221 Business and Blevins Express Road.

Upon investigating, Rose said police recovered the gun at the scene. The weapon was registered, but did not belong to Goodman nor anyone else questioned in relation to the incident.

Rose said Goodman reported being shot by a man wearing a hoodie, but gave officers little else to go on.

“He said he may have seen someone in some kind of a hoodie and then a bang,” Rose said. “But we really don’t have anything other than that vague information. We’ve questioned everybody we can but no one was able to give us anything else, so it’s still under investigation.”
