Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following are the most recent accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

July 18

Fleetwood

A single-vehicle accident took place on Railroad Grade Road in Fleetwood at 2 p.m. According to the accident report, Chelsea Denai Blount of 104 Meadow Heights in Oxford was traveling west when the driver swerved to the right to avoid an oncoming vehicle. Her vehicle left the road and struck a ditch. Her vehicle was pulled out of the mud by another motorist. There was no contact with the other vehicle that was described as a tan well-drilling rig.

Blount was uninjured.

The 2006 Jeep involved had an estimated $800 in damages but was considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

July 20

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident took place on Low Gap Road about seven miles from Jefferson at 3:04 p.m. According to the accident report, James Joseph Bare of 325 Bare Trail in Jefferson was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the road. Bare overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the center line and run off the left side of the road. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and overturned. The vehicle struck and came to rest against a trailer.

Bare was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

The 1978 Chevrolet involved had about $3,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

The trailer belonging to Cowley D. Royal, Jr. at 590 Low Gap Road in Jefferson had about $500 in damages.

Bare was charged with driving while impaired.

July 22

Creston

A single-vehicle accident took place on Big Laurel Road in Creston at 8:19 a.m. According to the accident report, Melissa Jane Oaks of 1841 Ed Little Road in Creston was traveling north when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and traveled down an embankment and struck another embankment.

Oaks was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

The 2000 Kia involved had an estimated $2,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Oaks was cited for driving without a license, exceeding safe speed and a lane control violation.

Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 221 about one mile from Jefferson at 5:40 p.m. According to the accident report, John Carter Goodrich of 4001 Winterberry Place in Charlotte was attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 16 from Highway 221. As Goodrich was turning, the vehicle struck another vehicle that was heading north, driven by Jordan Brett Crouse of 1248 Rock Quarry Road in Fleetwood.

Both drivers and three unnamed passengers were uninjured.

Goodrich’s 2015 Toyota had an estimated $500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Crouse’s 2008 BMW had an estimated $2,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Goodrich was cited for failure to yield.

July 24

Warrensville

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 88 near Frank Roland Road in Warrensville at 7:51 a.m. According to the accident report, Kiana Nichole Osborne of 2699 Roaring Fork Road in Creston was traveling west. Osborne stated that she fell asleep while driving, causing her vehicle to cross the center line and run off the left side of the road. Her vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Sharon Auton Calhoun of 10775 NC Highway 88 W in Warrensville. Osborne’s vehicle then overturned before coming to a stop.

Osborne was uninjured.

Osborne’s 2004 Nissan had about $10,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Calhoun’s 2002 Oldsmobile had about $6,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Osborne was cited for driving left of center.

July 29

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Island Ford Road about seven miles from Jefferson at 12:49 a.m. According to the accident report, Trent Allen Bost of 169 Possum Hollar Trail in Crumpler was traveling west when he failed to stop at the intersection of Island Ford Road and J.E. Gentry Road. The vehicle continued straight and collided with an embankment and then a fence. The vehicle came to a rest in an open field.

Bost and a passenger, Blake Austin Neal of 201 Ore Valley Road in Laurel Springs, were uninjured.

The 2002 Ford involved had about $3,900 in damages and was not considered drivable.

The fence belonging to Betty Corriher of J.E. Gentry Road in Crumpler had about $100 in damages.

Bost was charged with driving while impaired and running a stop sign.
