What could be better than an evening in the mountains where the weather is cool, the people are friendly and artistic talent is abundant? The second Friday night Gallery Crawl in downtown West Jefferson is the place to be for all three. The Ashe County Arts Council will again sponsor Gallery Crawl on August 11 from 5 to 8 pm. Crawlers are invited to stroll the streets, visit the galleries, view the downtown murals and take advantage of the downtown restaurants.
Twelve galleries will be open after hours to showcase the latest exciting artwork of talented local and regional artists. The participating galleries include: Participating in the crawl will be: Acorn Gallery, Ashe Arts Center, Ashe Custom Framing and Gallery, Backstreet Beads and Handcrafted Jewelry, Bohemia Gallery, Catchlight Gallery, Cher Shaffer Studio Gallery, Florence Thomas Art School, Foxfire Holler Fiber Art, Frenchy’s Art Gallery, Great Southern Gothic, Love for the Mountains Store, Originals Only Gallery, Quilt Square Girls, RT Morgan Gallery and Glass by Camille, Stephen Shoemaker Studio and Gallery, and West Jefferson Coffee Shop
For the August Gallery Crawl, the Ashe Arts Center will present a new exhibit in the gallery entitled “Through the Camera’s Eye”. Exhibit will feature area photographers. The photo subjects will the beauty of nature, interesting places and more! The opening reception will be during Gallery Crawl from 5-8 pm. The exhibit will be on display through September 2.
Florence Thomas Arts School will feature the opening reception of the Corey Anne Celebration of Women in the Arts. The featured artists include Gilda Aita, Cynthia Dixon, Cassondra Greer, Betty Powell and Susan Van Wyk.
