Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents that occurred between July 19 and July 25 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

July 21


A single-vehicle accident happened at 7:36 a.m. on Pine Mountain Road near the North Carolina and Tennessee border. According to the narrative, Derrik Anthony Legge of Creston was traveling north when the driver stated that a milk truck was heading south and crossed the center line. Legge stated he swerved to miss the truck, over-corrected and ran off the road to the right. The vehicle traveled left of center, off the road and into an embankment.

Legge was uninjured.

The 2000 Honda had about $3,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

July 23

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened at 4:27 p.m. on Highway 163 about six miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, a commercial truck driven by Gregory Richard Chatham of West Jefferson attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 163 from Severt Road when a vehicle driven by Melanie Raynell Severt of West Jefferson collided with the truck.

Chatham and a passenger, Joseph Edward Poe Jr., were uninjured.

Severt and two unnamed passengers were transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital. Another passenger, Marcia Harrison Houck of West Jefferson, refused medical transport.

Chatham’s 1982 Ford truck had about $1,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Severt’s 1989 Mercury had about $3,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.
