JEFFERSON-The case of a retired North Carolina State Trooper accused of taking indecent liberties with a child was continued to the Feb. 5 session of Ashe County Superior Court Monday.

According to court documents, Earl Dean Marmie, 70, of Sevierville, TN was charged with indecent liberties with a child and sexual battery on March 17, 2017. The complainant in the case is listed as SD Greene of the (North Carolina) State Bureau of Investigation’s Northwest division based in Hickory.

His case was originally scheduled for Monday, but like several other cases on the docket, it was continued.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Marmie served as a member of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Ashe, Wilkes and Alleghany Counties and retired from the agency in December 2001.

Ashe County Sheriff Terry Buchanan said that the alleged abuse occurred in Ashe County. The warrants indicate the date of offense occurred sometime in August 2005, with a victim under the age of 16.
