Ashe County Wreck Report Aug.27 – Sept. 6

ASHE COUNTY — The following are the most recent accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

Aug. 27

Kenneth Dean Clark, of 527 Big Windfall Road, and Tommy Ray Burns, of 153 Dusty Lane, of Mouth of Wilson, Va., were traveling on Jont Mountain Road in opposite directions when they collided in a curve. Clark’s 2003 GMC reportedly sustained $800 in damages.

Aug. 30

As Joyce Bledsoe Phillips, of 1253 Nettle Knob Road, West Jefferson, was slowing at the intersection near U.S. 221, Erin Kathleen Hardin, of 269 Cranberry Springs Road, Fleetwood, failed to reduce speed and struck Phillips. Hardin was charged with failure to reduce speed. Hardin’s 2011 Ford sustained $4,500 damages. Phillips’ 2013 Hyundai received $2,000 in damages.

Kayla Marie McCoy, of 407 E. Main Street, Apt. 207, Jefferson, was traveling northwest on East Little Horse Creek Road when she reportedly ran off the road on the right and struck a large rock after traveling to the left side of the road. Her vehicle then traveled down an embankment and rolled over. The vehicle came to rest in a pasture. McCoy sated that she swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle that was in her lane. Her Chevrolet reportedly sustained $2,500 in damages. No citations were issued.

Aug. 31

Shannon Elizabeth Anderson, of 4146 Branch Point, Pfafftown, was traveling on S.R. 1003 in West Jefferson when she ran off the road to the right and struck the ditch then struck a utility pole. Anderson was cited for failure to maintain lane control. Anderson’s 2009 Chevrolet received $2,000 in damages.

Sept. 1

Wilma Davis Phipps, of 1371 Helton Creek Road, Lansing, was traveling north on N.C. 194 when she ran off the road to the right and struck a fence. Her 2014 Subaru reportedly received $1,500 in damages.
