Haunted jail organizers cancel Hoppy meet and greet

JEFFERSON-Two days after confirming that former Ashe County Sheriff’s deputy Joshua “Hoppy” Hopkins would make a special guest appearance at their haunted jail this Halloween in Hillsville, Va., event organizers told the Jefferson Post Friday they have instead cancelled the event.

Organizers did not provide a reason for the abrupt cancellation.

Hopkins was scheduled to appear at the Night Watch haunted house on Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. at which time “Southern Justice” fans and supporters could meet the former deputy, who is awaiting trial on a second degree murder charge in the July 2015 shooting death of Dallas Shatley.

A promotional poster shows a date and time for the event along with a picture of Hopkins posing candidly while sporting a “thumbs-up.”
