Ashe County Wreck Report Oct. 4 – Oct. 10

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents that occurred between Oct. 4 and Oct. 12 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

Oct. 4

Matthew Lemly, of 450 Big Flatts Church Road, Fleetwood, was travelling west on N.C. 88 in a 2006 Nissan when he reportedly traveled off the roadway to the right and down an embankment. The vehicle then struck a tree and came to rest facing north. Lemly reportedly stated that he met another vehicle traveling east in the west bound lane, which caused him to swerve off the roadway. His Nissan sustained an estimated $20,000 in damages.

Oct. 6

Joseph Todd Cockerham, of 640 Elliott Road, West Jefferson, was traveling northwest on N.C. 88 on a 1986 Honda motorcycle when he reportedly departed the road to the right before over-correcting and overturned onto its left side. Cocherham was ejected as the motorcycle skidded to a final rest in the travel lane. The motorcycle reportedly sustained $650 in damages.

Melinda Donelle Wonsick, of 222 Country Mountain Lane, West Jefferson, was traveling east on Beaver Creek School Road in a 2012 Chevrolet when she reportedly collided with a deer in the roadway. Her vehicle sustained an estimated $1,800 in damages.

Oct. 7

Jessica Loren Eastridge, of 1463 Helton Creek Road, Lansing, was traveling north on N.C. 88 when she reportedly swerved to the right and departed the road to avoid an oncoming large truck that was partially in her travel lane. Eastridge’s 2013 Chevrolet collided with a guardrail face on the shoulder of the road. No other vehicle was located. There was no apparent damage to the guardrail. Her Chevrolet reportedly sustained $1,800 in damages.

Renze Ma, of 9208 Rose Garden Lane, Durham, was traveling south on U.S. 221 in a 2016 Toyota when Ma reportedly exceeded a safe speed to negotiate a curve and ran off the right shoulder. The truck came to rest in a ditch. The truck sustained $7,500 in damages. Ma was charged with exceeding a safe speed.

Oct. 8

As Angela Renee Reece, of 266 Caudill Lane, Warrensville, reportedly attempted to slow to a stop to avoid striking Eloise Schroeder Shepard, of 587 Ore Knob Manor Road, Jefferson, she lost control of her vehicle and struck Shepard’s 2012 Mazda. Reece was cited for failure to reduce speed. Reece’s 2008 Nissan reportedly sustained an estimated $2,500 in damages. Shephard’s Mazda reportedly sustained $1,500 in damages.

Shaunna Tahnee Godsey, of 3340 Springwood Lane, Kingsport, Tenn., was traveling south on S.R. 1362, when her 2009 Toyota ran off the right shoulder and struck a rock. The Toyota came to rest on its top in a creek . Godsey was charged with driving while intoxicated. Her Toyota reportedly sustained an estimated $9,000 in damages.

Oct. 9

As James Christopher Hayes, of 1045 W. Old Phillips Road, Pinnacle, attempted to reduce speed for a slowing vehicle, Kathy Dickson Dowdy, of 7915 N.C. 194 North, failed to reduce speed and collided with the vehicle of Hayes. Dowdy was charged with failure to reduce speed. Hayes’ 2018 Jaguar reportedly sustained $6,000 in damages. Dowdy’s 2001 Mazda reportedly sustained $2,800 in damages.

Oct. 10

Ricky Dale Taylor, of 11508 Old N.C. 16, Grassy Creek, was traveling south on Old N.C. 16 in a 1999 Subaru when he reportedly crossed the center-line and departed the road on the left. His vehicle then traveled down an embankment and collided with a large rock. Taylor was charged with failure to maintain lane control. His Subaru reportedly sustained $4,000 in damages.
