Ashe County Wreck Report Nov. 3

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents that occurred between Oct. 19 and Oct. 25 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

Oct. 19

Dakota James Collins, of 550 Mountain Shadow Road, Jefferson, reportedly pulled out onto N.C. 88 from Weaver Tree Farm in front of a 1997 Saturn driven by Thomas Harold Carpenter, of 6707 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, Tenn. Carpenter reportedly tried to swerve to avoid hitting Collins, but was unsuccessful and struck him head-on. Collins was charged with failure to yield. Collins’ 1999 Chevrolet reportedly sustained $7,000 in damages. Carpenter’s Saturn reportedly sustained $5,000 in estimated damages.

Oct. 19

In an attempt to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle that was driven by Jennifer Akier Parsons, of 456 Little Lyall Road Warrensville, Jorge Antonio Chavez, of 423 Clear Water Drive, West Jefferson, swerved into the opposite lane of travel on N.C. 88. Chavez then attempted to swerve back into the right lane of travel to avoid oncoming traffic and struck Parsons in the side. Chavez was charged with failure to reduce speed and driving left of center. Chavez’s 2006 Ford reportedly sustained $3,500 in damages. Parson’s 2004 Jeep reportedly sustained $4,000 in damages.

Madeline Rebecca Joines, of 144 Baker Drive, Crumpler, reportedly struck the rear of a 2015 Kia that was driven John Mark Cooley, of Galax, Va. The accident occurred near the Ashe County Convenience Center on N.C. 16. Joines was charged with failure to reduce speed. The Kia reportedly received $1,000 in damages while Joines’ Honda sustained $2,500 in damages.

Oct. 20

Jose Guadalupe, of 415 Orange Ave., Labelle, Fl., was traveling south on U.S. 221 when his 2003 Dodge traveled off the roadway to the right before travelling left of center. The trailer he was pulling the overturned and it became separated from the vehicle. Guadalupe was charged with driving with no license and driving left of center.

Oct. 21

Robert Lawrence Hamm, of 17179 N.C. 88 West, Creston, was traveling south on U.S. 221 in a 2013 Toyota when he reportedly met another vehicle traveling northbound in his lane of travel. Hamm then traveled off the roadway to the right and struck an embankment. No charges were issued. Hamm’s Toyota reportedly received $5,000 in damages.

Kaitlynn Marie Stover, of 440 Saddle Gap Road, West Jefferson, was traveling in a 1999 Isuzu on S.R. 1147 when she reportedly travelled off the road and collided with a bridge. Her vehicle reportedly sustained $1,000 in damages. Stover was charged with driving while impaired and no operator’s license.

Oct. 23

Randy Wayne Smith, of 202 Dyeann Trail, Jefferson, was traveling south on S.R. 1155 when he reportedly traveled off the roadway to the right to avoid a deer that had traveled into the roadway. His 2014 Nissan overturned and came to rest in a creek. His vehicle reportedly sustained $2,500 in damages.

Oct. 24

Gregory Allen Joines, of 944 N. Fork River Road, Lansing, was traveling south on N.C. 194 when he collided with a deer. His 2009 Chevrolet reportedly sustained $2,000 in damages.

Oct. 25

Shannon Miller Barr, of 5539 Old N.C. 16, Crumpler, and Derrick Delano Osborne, of 124 Edwin Blevins Road, Lansing, reportedly collided on S.R. 1573. Both vehicles reportedly received only minor damages.
