Greetings from downtown Todd!

There is so much going on in the next few weeks here in Todd, you’ll definitely want to get your calendar out and mark these dates so you won’t miss out on the good times that we’ll be having.

Come on down to the Todd Mercantile to kick up your heels to the lively sounds of the Laurel Creek String Band at its monthly CommUnity Dance. The dancers will be doing Contra’s, Reels, Squares, Waltzes a little bit of flat footing. No experience necessary, the caller runs through all the steps before each dance, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16. It’s free if your 12 and under and $5 if you’re over that. It’s a whole lot of fun, even if you just come to listen to the musical stylings of the Laurel Creek String Band and watch the dancers.

Then on Saturday, the Todd Community Preservation Organization’s free summer music series concludes with The Lizzy Ross Band. Lizzy was voted North and South Carolina’s Best Rock Female of the year in 2011 and last year was named a finalist and competed in the Kerrville, Texas, New Folk Songwriting Contest, whose past finalists include Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, and Lucinda Williams.

Lizzy’s music is a little bit of jazz, blues, folk and rock all mixed together for a unique sound all her own. The concert starts at 6 p.m. at Cook Memorial Park and come hungry because the TCPO will have hot dogs and burgers on the grill (veggie burger too).

The following Saturday, Aug. 24, brings the TCPO’s premiere summer event and something that you will surely want to get your tickets to… the second annual Doc Watson Tribute Concert with the Kruger Brothers, Wayne Henderson and Charles Welch. Tickets are just $15 dollars (day of the show $18). This will be a show you won’t want to miss. Tickets are available here at the Mercantile, the Ashe or Boone Chamber of Commerce, Appalachian Music, Scott’s Guitar, the Riverside Restaurant or Rivergirl. Stop by and get yours. The show starts at 4 p.m.
